Here we are, a week away from the last day of the 2019-2020 Academic year. I think we can all agree that we are looking forward to a well-earned break. I have a few housekeeping items to remind the community of:
- Resource returns for ES was this week. If you still need to return resources, please continue to do so. Resources may include musical instruments, books any IT devices that are no longer needed or any other articles checked out by the TRC, Library or Music Department. All resources must be returned to the Security Office at Gate 3 and placed in sealed plastic bags or containers, clearly marked with your child’s name, grade and advisory group. Please also add inside the bag a list of all the items enclosed. This will be checked by our TRC and Library administrators after the contents are disinfected.
- Any IT devices that are still being used for Distance Learning can be returned either Wednesday, June 24th or Thursday, June 25th
- Valuable pick up for ES: All ES valuables or contents of lockers that have been requested by parents/students will be bagged by class teachers, named and left at security for collection during the week of June 21st. All other contents of lockers will be bagged, labelled and held for next academic year and then returned to students.
- This week in a live lesson, the classroom teacher will share a video biography of all teachers in the grade level so that your child become familiar with the grade-level teaching team. Once we have more information from the government about what next Academic year could look like, we will be able to send out more specific class teacher information.
- Class lists will continue to be modified as new students join us and existing students may leave. This will lead to a few changes over the summer months that could impact class placements. An additional and final homeroom placement notice will go out in August confirming all placements for both returning and new families.
Finally, it is time to say goodbye to someone who has been an integral part of the GWA community for the past nine years, Ms. Cheryl Murree. Cheryl has been instrumental in building the quality of learning in the EYC. The transformation of the courtyard and the commencement of the GWA Nursery were both her initiatives. She leaves the EYC a much stronger learning community for her leadership. Cheryl has provided sterling service to GWA in a variety of roles from Grade 1 and 2 classroom teacher, PYP Coordinator to Assistant Principal (EYC) before being appointed as ES Principal (Early Years) last year. The school has developed significantly through her leadership and vision for early years education.
I personally would like to thank Cheryl for an amazing journey and many years of support in our 8 years at GWA together. Most of you may know that Cheryl and I taught on the same team in Grade 1 together, served as Grade 1 and Grade 2 Team Leaders at the same time and of course, then moved on to be Assistant Principal’s and finally Principal’s together. Though I am excited to take on the role of Whole-school Principal, to say I will miss having Cheryl’s voice (and laugh) from down the hall is an understatement. I know you all join me in wishing her all the best in her new endeavors.
Kind regards,
Kristen
