Our Elementary School is always a busy place, with a tremendous amount of things happening in every classroom, hallway, and space around the school. Yesterday, for example, a number of our newer-to-Arabic students set up and ran a "restaurant" in the cafeteria to serve people in Arabic as a way to practice their learning in a real-life setting. It was a lot of fun and their teachers did an amazing job organizing it (and I even got the chance to practice my Arabic)! However, all of these great things that take place throughout our school can't happen unless we have our systems in place and our staff are as thoroughly planned in their lessons as they are. There are a few things that we ask you, the parents, to be aware of and do to help us keep everything organized and running well. |
Reflection. It’s not just that pretty face looking back at you in the mirror, it’s actually the cement mortar that holds together the bricks that construct our learning. It could easily be argued that the most important part of learning is the reflection we undergo of it. The beliefs from the IB are very clear, and research backs it up: We don’t learn from our experiences, we learn by reflecting on our experiences. The more we reflect and think about our experiences and learning, the more we enhance our understanding, the more we deepen our insights, and the more we create connections to other things. While we often relate reflection with something that is done as a solitary exercise, the greatest impact to our understanding and learning comes from reflecting with others.
These last few days have been busy in PE with our Sports Days for grades KG1- Grade 1. The music was pumping, the parents and teachers were all in fine spirits and the children were geared up for a fantastic day of showing off their sporting talent! Every single child put their heart and soul into each event. It was great to see so many children understand how every contribution counts to their team’s results and that trying their hardest would help their whole team to do well. It was fabulous to see such determination on the faces of each and every child on the day….the PE team were so proud of everyone for their amazing efforts! Congratulations to all who took part! A big thanks to all of the teachers who assisted on each station, teachers and TAs who helped keep the children hydrated and excited, the many supporters for their loud cheers, school support staff and medical staff. We can’t wait for next year already! The PE Team
