Dear GWA Community, One of our biggest events of the year is happening next week on Friday, November 4 at the school. We are a unique institution for many reasons, but one of the truly special things about GWA is our diversity. It is so important to us, in fact, that internationalism and interculturalism is written into our Mission Statement that drives the school, as we strive to develop our students to become global citizens. One way of recognizing the similarities we all share while distinguishing those things that make us each unique, is on this November 4th day when we have our International Day celebrations. Although this day certainly showcases the five ‘Fs’ people often think about when they consider other cultures and countries (food, festivals, famous people, fashion, and flags), our goals for developing internationally minded students at GWA must go far beyond these. These five ‘Fs’ are what we call the surface culture, the things we can easily see. |
School Photograph Schedule
Students will be having their school photographs done from 23rd - 26th October. Please see the schedule with the school photo timings. We are having both individual and class blends taken at the same. Kindly ensure your child comes in full uniform. ear GWA Parents,
As we approach the second term, we would like to inform you of the formal withdrawal/transfer certificate process. If you know that you will be relocating at any time during the academic year, kindly inform the registration office at your earliest convenience by completing the withdrawal process as outlined in the below attachment. Please allow a minimum of 30 days between applying for a transfer certificate, and the last date of attendance, in order for us to ensure the attestation process is completed by the time you leave. Moreover, kindly ensure any pending fees are cleared and that any borrowed school items (library books, musical instruments etc.) are returned prior to the last date of attendance, as the transfer certificate cannot be released until your child’s account is cleared. For any assistance in this matter, or if you do not have your OASIS log-in details, please do not hesitate to contact the registration office. Dear ES Families, Happy House Day, Elementary School! As you know, over that past months GWA has been working hard on the house branding process. There are 4 new houses which have been named after influential historic Arabic personalities from the fields of early exploration, medicine and science. In turn, each house has a representative iconic animal which is linked to the geography of the region. The student house leaders played a large role in ensuring that animals were selected as the icons and that they had a relevant depiction of striving to pursue a goal. The house histories were constructed around the experiences of the Arabic influencers and their personalities, which guided the shaping of the mottos for each group. These were also linked to the IB Learner Profile, an important pedagogical component of every GWA student’s learning experience. This information is all contained in the template attached. The house system is now and will continue to be an important and exciting aspect of GWA life! Over the course of the term the children will be working on increasing their reading fluency in Arabic. We consider this goal one of our main targets for the Arabic Language Learners. We have a wealth of books in our Arabic Library that are available for the children to borrow and read in order to achieve their reading goals.
We believe that reading is a skill that is significantly enhanced through practice. On that note, we would like to take this opportunity and tap into one of the most valuable resources within our GWA community (Arabic Reading Club). We would like to invite the Arabic speaking parents to come in and listen to the students read Arabic books on 1-to-1 basis. If this is something you wish to volunteer for, then please click for the form below and send it back to school to the Arabic department or send a scanned copy to [email protected] as soon as possible. You are welcome to volunteer your time as much or as little as you wish. |
Please be sure to look through our Lost and Found located near the entrance to our school cafeteria. Thank you.
If your child is late to school, please visit the Elementary Office upon your arrival to school and obtain a late pass from the office.
