“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” - Albert Einstein Dear GWA Community, For good or bad, change is a constant in our lives, particularly so in international communities such as ours. For international teachers, some of the best characteristics of successful ones is to be flexible to change and be able to adapt to new situations quickly. We are constantly evolving our school, our curriculum, and our systems and processes to meet the changing needs of our students; however, most crucially, and connecting back to Mr. Einstein's quote, sometimes the biggest change needs to be our thinking and being able critically analyze how successful each area of our program is for our students. A lot of thought and consideration goes into these changes and many of them have been initiated due to the feedback from our parent community. |
Dear Teachers, Parents, and our lovely students, GWA IFTAAR and BAZAAR (Year of Zayed IFTAAR) What: GWA IFTAAR and BAZAAR When: 6.20-8.30pm 23rd 2018 Who: All GWA families Where: GWA Cafeteria, GYM To attend: complete this very quick Survey and show up on 23rd May 2018 Questions about food/ Iftaar: contact Waseem Alawneh ([email protected]) Questions about bazaar: contact Madiha Patka ([email protected]) Ramadan is a special month of year in which Muslims around the world fast from sun rise to sun set. It is a time of gratitude, reflection and of giving to those less fortunate. During this month, the breaking of the fast is called Iftaar and is an opportunity for families and friends to come together and be appreciative of our many blessings. According to this year’s lunar calendar, Ramadan is predicted to start on 17th May 2018.
To celebrate this occasion, the Islamic Department and GWA, with feedback from the wider GWA community, have prepared an Iftaar and Bazaar at school on Wednesday 23rd May2018 from 6.20-8.30pm in the school cafeteria. Thanks to GWA and our generous parents, food and drinks (and sweets!) will be provided free of charge. In line with the values of the IB Learner Profile, packages of food will also be prepared and distributed to laborers around Dubai. We have organized a special program for the evening, which includes an array of international food, Islamic songs and fun quizzes and games for the kids. Maghrib, the evening prayer, will occur at sundown in the GWA gymnasium. All Muslims are invited to participate in Maghrib and non-Muslims will have the opportunity to learn more about the Islamic faith. If you would like attend and/or bring some of your nation’s traditional dishes to contribute, please complete this very quick, Survey which will help us cater more accurately to the number of people attending. If you would like to have a booth at the bazaar, please contact Madiha Patka (([email protected]) All Families are welcome and we look forward to seeing you on the night. On Wed 23rd May 2018 there will be a dress down day for all of our students. Students may make a voluntary contribution of 5 Dhs to the Red Crescent should they desire. GEMS World Academy Sports and Physical Education
All students will gain physical competence and confidence through a variety of exciting, competitive, holistic experiences, giving them the desire to be physically literate for life. Why are we changing our competitive sports program?
Yes - match days are set to be the same in all schools for each age and sport. Training days will be scheduled so that they will not clash with other sports for your age. Therefore, you will be able to choose more than one sports per term. What are the terms? Term 1 – September – End of December. Term 2 – January – End of March. Term 3 – April to end of June. What schools will we be competing against? DASSA and DASPA have around 54 schools affiliated and this number is growing. Click on the links above to find more details. Most sports have divisions according to the ability of the team for that particular sport and age category. The division that we are in will determine the schools that we play against. In most sports there are finals and knockout competitions where GWA will be competing for Trophies.
