The holiday season is upon us and with it comes an opportunity for an abundance of family time. Trying to maintain a healthy balance of family activities with screen time can be challenging, yet necessary For those of you who are unsure where to start, here are some tips to keep your children balanced, connected and feeling positive about the holidays:
Good afternoon,
As we have done in previous years, GEMS School Support Center has asked the GWA community nominate a teacher each month to be recognized for their inspirational and outstanding contributions. At the end of the year, any of our monthly teacher selections could be nominated for the Mariamma Varkey Award to be selected from all GEMS schools. As Elementary parents and students, we would really value your input on our anonymous survey in helping with the selection to honor a teacher. We are looking for staff who have made a positive impact on you, our students and/or our school community. Based on responses from staff, parents and students, we will recognize a teacher every other month. Winning candidates will be announced 3 times a year, December, March and June. Every one of our teachers does amazing things for our students, staff and community on a daily basis. However, please remember, this is not about choosing who the most popular teacher is, rather, this is our opportunity to recognize and acknowledge the exceptional contributions to our community that our colleagues make each day. Gd.2 students in the garden.
With the onset on cooler weather students from Gd.2 have had the opportunity to take advantage of the school rooftop garden and experience the wonder of planting seeds. Making connections with procedural writing and locating non fiction text in the library, the students learnt how to follow a procedure to plant a seed, how to interpret the information on a seed packet and how to use a key to present information. The GWA Counseling Department is inviting parents to a documentary screening and discussion of the film: Screenagers: NEXT CHAPTER: Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience by filmmaker and physician Dr. Delaney Ruston.
