Dear Parents, Last week I shared with you some of the things that students are learning and engaging with in their classes and grades. Every day there is such an amazingly deep array of learning experiences going on that it’s hard to believe! However, this week, I thought I would share some of the things that our staff have chosen to do for themselves. We can’t say we value life-long learning with students unless we’re actually practicing and modelling it ourselves. Our school-wide policy on professional learning states: “The purpose of Professional Learning at GEMS World Academy is to improve student learning through ongoing, differentiated learning opportunities, strong learning structures rooted in effective research-based practices, and systems of professional support.” Read on to see a few of the things we’re working on in our efforts to improve student learning. |
Parenting with Love and Logic
Love and Logic is a parenting approach that teaches parents to set and enforce limits in a firm, calm and loving way. At the theoretical core of this approach is the idea that successful parenting begins with communicating expectations, sharing the thinking & decision-making and having children learn through their mistakes and successes. As children are given opportunities to experience their own successes and failures, their thinking skills, decision making and responsibility improve and they become more successful in all areas of their life. The elementary counseling team will be repeating the Parenting with Love and Logic workshop on Wednesday, May 4th 8:30-10:00 in the Planetarium. This interactive workshop will improve your understanding of these parenting principles and strategies. Sign up for the Parenting with Love and Logic Workshop here. Due to the nature of the workshop, space is limited. By signing up, you are committing to attending on Wednesday, May 4th in the Planetarium. We look forward to seeing you there. Thank you, Elementary Counselor Team
