From April 28-May 2, cartoonist and author Matt Smith will be visiting GWA to speak with students, parents, and faculty in personalized workshops. During student sessions, students will have the opportunity to draw along with Matt and the discussions have been tailored to their current units of study.
Parents are invited to an exclusive workshop on Monday, April 29th from 3:30-4:00 in the First Floor Lounge. All parents are welcome and Matt will discuss how comics and graphic novels promote literacy and stretch student's analytical skills. Dear Families,

It is a time of gratitude, reflection and of giving to those less fortunate. During this month, the breaking of the fast is called Iftaar and is an opportunity for families and friends to come together and be appreciative of our many blessings. According to this year’s lunar calendar, Ramadan is predicted to start on 6th May 2019. To celebrate this occasion, the Islamic Department and GWA, with feedback from the wider GWA community, have prepared an Iftaar and Bazaar to be held at school on Wednesday 15th May 2019 from 5.30PM - 8.00pm in the school cafeteria. Thanks to GWA and our generous parents, food and drinks (and sweets!) will be provided free of charge. In line with the values of the IB Learner Profile, packages of food will also be prepared and distributed to labourers around Dubai. We have organized a special program for the evening, which includes an array of international food, Islamic songs and fun quizzes and games for the kids. Maghrib, the evening prayer, will occur at sundown in the GWA gymnasium. All Muslims are invited to participate in Maghrib and non-Muslims will have the opportunity to learn more about the Islamic faith. Completing the above survey will help us cater more accurately to the number of people attending. If you would like to have a booth at the bazaar, please contact Madiha Patka as above. All families are welcome and we look forward to seeing you on the night. If you have any questions, please contact Waseem Alawneh ([email protected]) or any of Islamic team ( Khaled Al-Matrouh, Muneer Jawarneh, Madiha Patka or Enas Al-Haffez.)
On Wednesday 17th April, The Ritz-Carlton Dubai kindly invited 120 of our students to their beautiful hotel for the Ritz Kids event “Ocean Discovery”, with Oceanographer Jean-Michel Cousteau, the son of Jacques Cousteau. Jean-Michel treated us to a multimedia lecture on ocean discovery, unveiling his life-long expeditions and explorations of ocean environments and the natural wonders of the world. The interactive session was followed by Ritz Kids activities, including; arts and crafts, reef building, a sand castle competition, fun games and a light afternoon tea buffet and refreshments. As a voice for the ocean, Jean-Michel inspires while educating even the youngest students about the need to act responsibly, to preserve our fragile underwater ecosystems that are so intricately tied to all life on our planet. |
Please be sure to look through our Lost and Found located near the entrance to our school cafeteria. Thank you.
