Busy doesn’t even begin to describe life at GWA, whether we’re talking about students, teachers or parents. Even though we all know that having strong bonds between this trio of people is crucial for ensuring students receive the best possibly for success, rarely do we ever achieve that centre area of the Venn diagram where all three overlap. But when it does happen, it’s a memorable experience for everyone. Thankfully, we had a number of times this happened recently, many times it will happen next week, and a big day later next month when the three important elements combine! |
The elementary counseling team will be hosting a parent workshop focusing on the Love and Logic approach on Wednesday, March 2nd at 8:30-10:00 in the Planetarium. In this parenting workshop, you will understand the process by which children grow through their mistakes and learn from the consequences of their choices. This interactive workshop will improve your parenting communication by setting firm limits in loving ways without the use of anger, lecture, threats or repeated warnings.
Sign up for the Parenting with Love and Logic Workshop here. Due to the nature of the workshop, space is limited. By signing up, you are committing to attending on Wednesday, March 2nd in the Planetarium. We look forward to seeing you there. The Elementary Counseling Team
The Dual Role of Parents: Providing Nurture and Structure
As a parent, have you ever wondered to yourself: “Am I being loving and attentive enough?” OR “Am I being too giving?” “Are my children becoming spoiled?” “Am I too strict?” OR “Am I too lenient?” How can I balance these parenting styles? Countless of parenting books have been written to answer similar questions and to help parents effectively address a myriad of behavioral concerns. What most parenting books share in common is the idea of establishing a parenting relationship that strikes a balance between the following two roles: the nurture role and the structure role.
