Today we remember the fallen members of the UAE military particularly when the military are still in active service in Yemen.
What a wonderful celebration we had yesterday to commemorate UAE Day. The efforts of everyone involved, particularly the GWAPA committee under Pooja’s leadership and our facilities team, are truly appreciated. The culture of the UAE as well as the colour, the flavours and smells of the UAE were so evident.

The Power of Digital Portfolios This academic year, we have made the strategic decision to implement online portfolios. Online portfolios provide us with important learning opportunities. First, online portfolios allow students to document their learning journey throughout the academic year and beyond. Students, teachers, and parents are able to see, very clearly, areas of strength, areas of further required growth, as well as progress over time. An essential component of online portfolios is the opportunity for reflection. Intentional opportunities for reflection ultimately lead to goal setting. Without goal setting, students often work towards unidentified or moving targets. Students choose the items that go into their portfolio to highlight steps of their learning journey. Students own the portfolios and are given the voice in how they demonstrate and document their learning over time. (Of course, our younger students need some support in this!) Congratulations to all our Dragons teams that have competed so strongly over the past few weeks at NESAC. A couple of weeks ago out Dragons’ Swim Team swept the pool with first places to both Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity and JV teams. We have been strong in swimming in the past but this was a young team and with a new Head Coach in place we were unsure of exactly where the teams would place. Clearly the work that Coach Lucas and all of her coaches have been putting the swimmers through in the early morning and afternoon sessions paid off. Well done to all. It was wonderful to witness the scale of the event and size of crowd at the International Day last week. Of course these types of events do not occur without an enormous amount of work behind the scenes. Firstly, to all the members of GWAPA who worked for months to organize the day - thank you! To all of the country representatives who established stall – thank you! To all the students and staff who worked so hard to make sure that the event ran smoothly – thank you! All my sources state that this was the best attended arranged International Day the school has seen. I know that it will only get bigger and better with this fantastic community. This is a gentle reminder about the cashless system that the school has in place at both ground and first floor cafeteria and our Café. You are encouraged to use this system and top up your child’s card instead of using cash money. To control the spending, the parent can put a limit of i.e. AED 20 which should be enough for a one full meal with water or fresh juice. |
